Enugu Assembly to pass 2016 budget before end of January —Speaker

Enugu—The N85 billion 2016 budget estimate presented to the Enugu State House of Assembly by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for consideration and approval is to be passed before the end of this month, the Speaker of the House, Mr. Edward Ubosi, has said.Ubosi spoke, yesterday, during an inter-denominational church service organised by the leadership of the House to seek the face of God for the 2016 legislative year.

He thanked his colleagues for their support in the past seven months, saying that the church service was to seek God’s blessings to enable members face their legislative challenges by attending to pending motions and bills.

Ubosi said that the budget was yet to be passed because the Ministries Department Agencies, MDAs, were yet to finish their budget defence to the House Standing Committees, adding that as soon as the MDAs finished their budget defence, the appropriation bill would be passed into law, having scaled through the second reading.

According to him, the early passage of the bill was necessary to enable the executive work towards fulfilling its campaign promises.
